Ted Cantle has been working on cohesion for over twenty years – his ground breaking ‘Cantle Report’ established the concept of ‘community cohesion’ in 2001. Gradually, he has had to recognise that our political system also contributes to divisions and enmity between communities and within wider society. He has therefore recently decided to focus on political reform.

This report notes that the UK’s system of governance has the lowest ever support, and that trust in politicians has reached a new low. The report specifically focuses on the ‘us and them’ culture which our political system promotes and suggests that the introduction of proportional representation could kickstart a change in political behaviour.
